This costume can be very fast and simple to create. Most of the clothing items can usually be found at cheap prices at thrift stores (try Goodwill or Salvation Army. If you can't find what you need second-hand, you can also buy similar items, such as a plain light-blue dress, and alter them by adding touches such as puffy sleeves or a raised hemline. If you are especially good at sewing, you can also search the web for sewing patterns.

Step 1: What You Need to Make an Alice in Wonderland Costume

  1. A light blue dress, knee-length, with puffy sleeves and a wide skirt
  2. A white petticoat that hangs a few inches below the dress
  3. White pantaloons (stockings or pantyhose will also work)
  4. A white apron
  5. Streams of white ruffle fabric
  6. Black, patent-leather Mary Jane shoes
  7. A black ribbon for your hair
  8. A long blond wig (if you don't already have the hair) http://www.costumzee.com/how-to-costumes/view/4103/http://costumes.lovetoknow.com/Alice_in_Wonderland_Costume_Patterns

Step 2: Making the Costume

  1. Sew the ruffly fabric to the bottom and sides of your apron
  2. Put on the petticoat
  3. Put on the dress--if your petticoat does not show at the bottom, hem the dress up a few inches
  4. Wrap the apron loosely around the dress, and secure into place
  5. Put on the stockings or pantaloons
  6. Place the Mary Janes on your feet
  7. Wrap the ribbon under the bottom of your hair, and tie into a bow at the top

Step 3: Hair

Alice is known for her long, straight dirty-blond hair. If this does not describe your own locks, you may want to purchase a wig to make your costume look more authentic. Most wig stores are relatively expensive. However, around Halloween, there are usually a plethora of costume shops that pop up in shopping malls and other various locations. You will probably be able to find a wig in one of these stores for much less money than a wig shop.
